Overview

The MLSS-110 is a digital self-cleaning sludge concentration sensor purpose-built for wastewater treatment process control. Using infrared 135° scattered light technology, it continuously monitors Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids (MLSS) concentration across a 0–50,000 mg/L range — providing the real-time data operators need to optimize aeration, sludge treatment, and biological processes.

Key Features

  • Infrared Scattered Light Technology: 135° detection angle optimized for sludge measurement
  • Wide Range: 0–50,000 mg/L covers the full spectrum of wastewater treatment applications
  • Self-Cleaning Wiper: Optional automatic wiper prevents sludge buildup on optical surfaces
  • SUS316L Stainless Steel: Built to withstand aggressive wastewater environments
  • Digital RS485 Output: Modbus RTU protocol for direct integration with plant control systems
  • IP68 Waterproof: Fully submersible with NEMA6P protection
  • Built-in Temperature Sensor: Integrated temperature monitoring
  • Factory Calibrated: Ready to deploy with slope and multi-point field calibration

Applications

  • Aeration basin MLSS concentration monitoring
  • Sludge thickening and dewatering process control
  • Return activated sludge (RAS) monitoring
  • Waste activated sludge (WAS) control
  • Secondary clarifier feed monitoring
  • Sludge blanket level detection
  • Industrial wastewater treatment optimization

Why MLSS Monitoring Matters

MLSS concentration is the single most critical parameter in biological wastewater treatment. Accurate, real-time MLSS monitoring enables:

  • Optimized Aeration: Adjust air supply based on actual biomass concentration to save energy
  • Process Stability: Maintain optimal MLSS levels for consistent treatment performance
  • Sludge Management: Control sludge wasting and return rates for efficient solids handling
  • Cost Reduction: Reduce energy consumption and chemical usage through precise process control

Installation and Maintenance

The MLSS-110 mounts with a railing-mount bracket using DN32 pipe. Position the sensor fully submerged in the aeration basin or process tank, away from areas with excessive air bubbles or direct turbulence from diffusers.

Self-Cleaning: The optional automatic wiper is highly recommended for MLSS applications where sludge can quickly foul optical surfaces. Wiper interval is adjustable via Modbus registers.

Calibration: Factory-calibrated for immediate deployment. Single-point slope correction and multi-point calibration with standard solutions are available for site-specific optimization.

Connectivity and Integration

The MLSS-110 communicates via RS485 Modbus RTU, compatible with:

  • Agrinovo IoT controllers (Omni Genesis, Omni Exodus)
  • Wastewater plant SCADA and PLC systems
  • Process automation controllers
  • Data historians and reporting platforms

Why Choose MLSS-110

  • Purpose-built for sludge: Optimized optics for accurate MLSS measurement
  • Low maintenance: Self-cleaning wiper keeps sensors operating in fouling-prone environments
  • Industrial grade: SUS316L body with IP68 protection for wastewater conditions
  • Real-time process data: Continuous monitoring replaces grab samples
  • Easy integration: Standard Modbus RS485 connects to any plant control system
  • Flexible deployment: Cable lengths up to 100m for any tank configuration
